My husband and I are obsessed with building our own tiny home, buying land, and living a simplified life in Northern Colorado but by all indications, none of the Counties (Larimer, Weld, Boulder, Adams) allow you to live in a tiny home year round. Help! Other than living in an RV park, how can we make our dreams come true?

We live in a tiny house in Weld county – while zoning doesn’t technically allow for it, we haven’t had any issues where we are at. From what I understand it isn’t too much of an issue unless someone complains about it. There are plenty of people living in RV’s around us too – everyone pretty much keeps to themselves.
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your post. I have good news…. there is a way to build tiny home legally. I am currently in Routt County, Colorado and will be building a small community of tiny homes for sale WITH THE LAND!
There is a process call P.U.D., planned Urban Development. Which is for planners when the developer wants to build something that is just not in the code. It looks at a whole variety of aspects from location, utilities, site, subdivision, etc.
We are going through this process this month, Feb 2019, with a public hearing with the county planning commission and then on to the board of county commissioners in March.
Please reach out to me and we can discuss your dreams!
